AAP Recommends HPV Vaccines for Males and Females
Human papillomaviruses (HPV) cause a large number of cancers of the mouth and throat, cervix and genital organs. HPV are the most common sexually transmitted viruses in the United States, and the highest prevalence of HPV infection is found in sexually active adolescents and young adults.
Dell Children's Adds, Expands Complex Care Programs
Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas is expanding to increase capacity, increase existing specialty care services and build new programs not currently available in Central Texas. The new tower project is underway and expected to be completed May 2013. Plans include the region’s first comprehensive inpatient rehabilitative care center for kids of all ages.
Austin Emergency Medicine Residency Program Approved to Begin in July
Austin’s first emergency medicine residency program will begin in July with eight residents based at University Medical Center Brackenridge, helping to train the next generation of emergency physicians and enhancing Austin’s reputation as a center for medical education and research.
Legislative Update
As pediatricians and pediatric healthcare professionals, we advocate for children's health on a daily basis in our careers. As the co-chair of the Texas Pediatric Society Legislative Committee, I would also urge us to understand our state's legislative process and the potential impact on our state's children.
